Don't worry about it, you will soon get to grips with it, we are happy for you to sit all through the service until you feel you are comfortable. There is no getting it wrong remember!
We have a couple of hymn books we use: Singing the Faith and Mission Praise. We sometimes have live pianists playing for us, and sometimes modern worship songs appear as part of the service. We Methodists do love to sing, so we usually have a good number of hymns. Just hum along till you get the tune!
Not at all. Whether you have deep faith, many questions, or are just looking to see if church is for you, all are welcome here. We do offer bible study and the chance to meet with our fellowship groups or a minister if you have questions about God and Jesus.
When do I sit, stand, or kneel?
Each of our seven chapels has dedicated parking or easy roadside spaces nearby. Look out for our friendly stewarding team at the front of the chapel if you are unsure where to park.
What is the Lord's prayer?
Does the church charge a fee to attend?
Absolutely. We love having families worship with us, and we offer dedicated children's corners with toys, books, and creative activities. There are also Messy church activities at some of our chapels.
No, there's no fee; we're free! We do have a collection each week that you may wish to add to. This money goes to further the ministry work of the church. It is up to you if you put money in; no one will judge or think less of you if you can't or don't wish to.
What happens during a service?
We have lots of ways that we worship, but a traditional service involves music, prayers, readings from the Bible, a sermon or reflection and a blessing or the grace (see below). You won't ever be asked to do something or say something, so don't worry; we are all about feeling inclusive but not being put on the spot!
What hymns or music do you use?
The Lord's Prayer is said by all Christians and was taught to the disciples (followers of Jesus) many years ago. You can hear and read it for yourself below.
What is Holy Communion, & can I join in?
Holy Communion is performed in remembrance of the 'Last Supper' when Christ ate and drank with the disciples before he was taken and crucified. It reminds all Christians of the promise of eternal life through Jesus' sacrifice. We believe He died in our place to take away our sins. It is usual to take communion once you are confirmed, but everyone is invited to our communion table, and if you bow your head, you'll receive a Blessing, which feels really lovely. Give it a try!
